Environmental management is no longer only about reducing impact, but about building strategic resilience in the face of climate change. This update strengthens organisations' commitment to the future of the planet and to long-term operational sustainability.

What is changing?

A greater emphasis on:

  • Life cycle thinking
  • Climate risk management
  • Transparency in performance reporting
  • And other key evolutions

Key changes at a glance:

  • Clause 4.1 and 4.2 — Biodiversity, pollution and the availability of natural resources are now explicitly mandatory in the context analysis
  • Clause 5.1 — Management responsibility is extended beyond top management
  • Clause 6.1 — Restructured into five sub-clauses, with Risks and Opportunities now as a separate requirement (6.1.4)
  • Clause 6.3 — An entirely new clause on planning of changes
  • Clause 9.2 — Internal audits must now define the objectives, not only the scope and criteria
  • Clause 10 — Continual improvement is now Clause 10.1, with clear importance
