Rainforest Alliance Certification Program

Launched in 2020, the updated Rainforest Alliance certification system is a globally recognized program and labeling scheme that covers the responsible production, processing, trade, and sale of agricultural products such as coffee, cocoa, tea, herbs, bananas, hazelnuts, and more.

This modern standard was developed following the 2018 merger between the former Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certification programs, combining the strengths of both systems into a unified framework.

The main goal of the Rainforest Alliance is to promote environmental protection and improve the well-being of farmers and forest-dependent communities by harnessing the power of global markets and collaboration.

Key components of the certification program

The Rainforest Alliance 2020 Standard is built on several core documents:

Farm Requirements: These criteria aim to promote environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically sustainable agricultural practices. They provide farmers with practical guidance on increasing productivity while preserving the ecosystems on which they depend.

Supply Chain Requirements: These rules apply to businesses that handle certified products and are designed to increase transparency, encourage ethical practices, and support sustainable sourcing throughout the supply chain.

Certification and Audit Rules: These rules describe the procedures and responsibilities for certification bodies and producers, ensuring consistent application of the Rainforest Alliance standard and integrity in the certification process.

Certified by TÜV NORD as an authorized certification body for UTZ since 2009 and accredited to conduct audits under the updated Rainforest Alliance program. We conduct assessments specifically for the supply chain component of the certification, ensuring compliance with sustainability and traceability requirements

Commitment to the fight against corruption

As an official audit body for Rainforest Alliance supply chain certification, TÜV NORD strictly adheres to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. All employees, consultants and affiliates are required to act with honesty, fairness and transparency at all times.

Any form of bribery or unethical influence, including – but not limited to – offering or receiving money, gifts, favors, services or other benefits with the intention of obtaining or giving certification advantages, is expressly prohibited. Any attempt to influence the outcome of the audit through such means is strictly prohibited and will be dealt with accordingly.
